Last night wasn&#8217;t too productive &#8211; I bumped one, she bumped (stopped to flush, though) a double, and we finished the night with a hard point and steady to wing on a single. Wednesday night was a lot better &#8211; we moved over a dozen birds. Regardless, it&#8217;s a great time to be in the fields, swamps and pondsides. A short list of things that caught my attention:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">a raft of ring-necked ducks with a male hooded merganser tucked in the center<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">a trio of mallards deep in some flooded puckerbrush<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">pterodactyls nesting<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3464\/3391232560_4520a55347_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3464\/3391232560_742447a204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">the wintergreen smell of birch sap<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">the cinderblock splash of a beaver sounding the alarm<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">the smell of sweet fern and the sound of gravel underfoot<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3454\/3391232056_f8b9cd9b61_b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3454\/3391232056_f8b9cd9b61.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">the clink-tinkle of Dinah&#8217;s bell<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">spring peepers starting the evening chorus<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">no bugs yet!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3619\/3385649447_80c2910286_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3619\/3385649447_99e58239a6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The woodcock are coming north; Dinah and I have been out in the evening looking for them.
