I&#8217;ve mentioned previously <a href=\"http:\/\/hawkdog.net\/wordpress\/archives\/65\">how important<\/a> he was to me growing up. I&#8217;m not alone. Here is Neil Gaiman singing the Fireball XL5 theme last night (New Years Eve):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6SV1yX-Kp5c?list=FLJeuNWL9XaO_J9PXNV3hRVQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One more Fireball reference I&#8217;d like to note &#8211; Alan Moore made a great joke in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1401203078\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=hawkdog-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=1401203078\">The Black Dossier<\/a>: &#8220;Allan Quatermain and Mina Murray steal a rocket named <i>Pancake XL4<\/i>. Each ship of the series is traditionally named after the manner of her predecessor&#8217;s destruction. The <i>Mushroom Cloud XL2<\/i> and the <i>Shrapnel XL3<\/i> are named as other examples of the <i>Fireball XL5&#8242;<\/i>s antecedents. The <i>Pancake XL4<\/i> is destroyed by a collision with a mountain, exploding in a huge fireball and earning the XL5 its name.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fireball_XL5#Fireball_XL5_in_other_media\">*<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gerry Anderson died last Wednesday.
