Joanne McNeil Wrote an excellent overview and analysis last summer: <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/message\/tiny-letters-to-the-web-we-miss-6a695a6316c\">Tiny Letters to the Web We Miss<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"0011\" class=\"graf--p is-withNotes\">I knew what a blog was in 2002, I knew what it was in 2008, which was slightly different but still definitely a \u201cblog.\u201d Now, I have no idea what the word means any more. It isn\u2019t something that runs on WordPress, because that is now <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2013\/07\/27\/19-percent-of-the-web-runs-on-wordpress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2013\/07\/27\/19-percent-of-the-web-runs-on-wordpress\/\">the CMS for almost 20% of the web<\/a>. It isn\u2019t a place for short links, because that is Twitter. Tumblr and Instagram took over for photoblogs. And those long personal essay\/personal rant posts that people would write every once in a while?\u2014?those are happening here on Medium instead of our own websites. Specific products are driving the content.<\/p>\n<p id=\"66fb\" class=\"graf--p\">TinyLetter isn\u2019t driving the content as much as it is driving the newsletter trend. The format can be used for multiple purposes just like blogs used to be. <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/message\/tiny-letters-to-the-web-we-miss-6a695a6316c\">*<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">If you want to dip your toes, let me recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/vruba\">Charlie LLoyd<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyletter.com\/vruba\">6<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/debcha\">Debbie Chachra<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyletter.com\/metafoundry\">Metafoundry<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyletter.com\/vruba\/letters\/6-37-blur\">6, 37: Blur<\/a>&#8216;s metasequoia section is one of the best things I&#8217;ve read in a while.
