I get back from a multiday bird hunting trip to find that Steve has tagged me as a <a href=\"http:\/\/stephenbodio.blogspot.com\/2008\/10\/superior-scribblers.html\">superior scribbler<\/a>. To say that I&#8217;m emproudened would be an understatement. I&#8217;ve been reading Steve since the mid-80&#8217;s, when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0871088266?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=hawkdog-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0871088266&quot;&gt;A Rage for Falcons&lt;\/a&gt;&lt;img src=\">A Rage for Falcons<\/a> first came out and the other bloggers he tags are damn high quality reads &#8211; I feel like the odd guy out. Hasn&#8217;t stopped me from doing a little (internal) swaggering around, though &#8211; I plan on continuing to enjoy the recognition.<\/p>\n<p>My five picks for Superior Scribblers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/lord-whimsy.livejournal.com\/\">Lord Whimsy&#8217;s LiveJournal<\/a>. Sartorial splendor, yes, but also plants, carnivorous and otherwise, wunderkammeren, the Pine Barrens and the Philly scene. He introduced me to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adamwallacavage.com\/\">Adam Wallacavage&#8217;s<\/a> cephalopod chandeliers and has recently been seen dancing with <a href=\"http:\/\/lord-whimsy.livejournal.com\/393232.html\">danger girls<\/a>. Beware &#8211; that well-dressed man on the pennyfarthing is much more than he seems!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/xtinpore.blogspot.com\/\">Xtinpore<\/a>. I found Xtin via <a href=\"http:\/\/fretmarks.blogspot.com\/\">Pluvialis\/Fretmarks<\/a> (they are friends IRL) and what a find it was. She writes like a thrush sings. Xtinpore has been on a bit of a hiatus recently &#8211; I&#8217;m fervently hoping that regular posting will resume. If you haven&#8217;t been there, go and read the older posts; if you have, add Xtin to your RSS feed so that you&#8217;ll know immediately when new posts go up.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glyphjockey.com\/glyphblog.html\">The Glyphblog<\/a>. One of the nice things about the medium (web stuff\/blogging) is that it can be a substrate for various forms of expression &#8211; words, drawings, photographs, sequential art, moving images, you name it. You&#8217;ll find just about all of the above (and some things that defy categories) over at Lex10&#8217;s place. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8I0pqPWfjWU\">The Greatest Nancy Panel Ever Drawn<\/a> <em>and<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glyphjockey.com\/punkbb.htm\">trading card mashups<\/a>? C&#8217;mon, what more could an old psychedelician want?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/thisisindexed.com\/\">Indexed<\/a>. Visual haiku. Teh awesum. Jessica deserves a chapter in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Tufte\">Edward Tufte&#8217;s<\/a> next book.<\/li>\n<li>Signor Marcello Poletti&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/poletti\/\">Flickrstream<\/a>. Ok, so not much scribbling &#8211; mostly pictures &#8211; but I don&#8217;t care! One of my reading metrics, especially when it&#8217;s non-fiction, is how many other books does the tome in question cause me to read? How many tangential paths do I set off on? By this measure Poletti&#8217;s stream is superior &#8211; keep an eye on it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glyphjockey.com\/punkbb.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glyphjockey.com\/punkbb\/neil.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"555\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wow.
