I like maps – old, new, fanciful, technical, you name it. I was very happy to stumble across the strange maps blog this morning (thanks, Bruce); this one’s going to get added to my netvibes portal and to the blogroll.

Thanks for this. I also love maps. There used to be a magazine that always put a map on the last page: map of all the dogs in a neighborhood (with names), map of the earth with the north pole at the center (VERY revealing in terms of how culture spread), and so on. Once at a retreat we were asked to draw a map of our spiritual progress. Amazing stuff. I saved it all.
And I have a vague recollection of a very sexy book about a man looking for some kind of exotic map… It’s just a great metaphor, quite aside from the charm of the execution and the usefulness.

Forgot to say that once I was going to drive from
Chicago to Hartford, Conn. I said so to a very serious fellow from Boston. He immediately seized my Rand McNally map and marked all the best high-quality primo ice cream stores on the route! He was right, too!

I like the idea of the dog map very much – I may need to make one…
